About Us


Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labrador (SCNL) is a proud member of Skate Canada and the governing body of figure skating  in Newfoundland and Labrador. However, we go far beyond figure skating. As the largest learn-to skate teaching organization in the province we offer programming for all ages and abilities through our more than 30 member clubs and schools located from St. John’s to Labrador City. Currently boasting a membership of 5, 500 participants,we are the largest learn-to-skate teaching organization in the province. Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labrador is dedicated to offering quality programming and inspiring  Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to embrace the joy of skating.

  • is a member of Skate Canada the largest skating instruction organization in Canada
  • clubs offer Skate Canada nationally standardized skating programs.  Each year, our learn-to-skate and skill-development programs help more than 5,000 skaters hone their on-ice skills. Those skills can be applied to figure,hockey, ringette or speed skating, or to enjoy gliding on a frozen pond.
  • is comprised of 5 Regions that are made up of over 30 skating clubs and schools
  • is supported by over 500 volunteers across our clubs and regions
  • has over 80 member professional coaches who are NCCP qualified
  • qualifies and appoints judges, referees and other officials in the sport of figure skating.
  • offers skating competitions including: Sectional Championships, STARSkate and Competitive Provincial Championships, Synchronized Skating Provincial Championships, STAR Provincials, Rebecca Pack Memorial Friendship Skate, Elizabeth Swan Memorial Synchronized Skating Invitational, Agnes Thistle STARSkate Invitational, Eastern, Western and Labrador Divisional Championships
  • is a founding partner of the Atlantic Canadian Skating Championships
  • is home to over 40 synchronized skating teams
  • operates a Summer Skating Academy designed to provide quality summer training at home
  • provides performance and/or financial support to clubs, regions, skaters, Coach and Official Development
