Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labrador is proud to announce the introductory group of SCNL Coach Mentorship Program participants Jo-Anne Dormody, Matthew Power and Neal Thorne. This season we are pleased to accept all Coaches who applied to participate in this exciting new professional development opportunity. We look forward to working with Jo-Anne, Matthew and Neal as they work toward achieving their goals in partnership with the SCNL Coach Mentorship Program.

We encourage all qualified Coaches interested in this program to submit their application during our next call for applicants.

 

Coach Mentorship Program

Program Overview
The SCNL Coach Mentorship Program is an initiative of the Skater Development committee to provide opportunity/support for promising coaches across the province to reach their full coaching potential in our sport.  The program will be introduced this fall and will provide professional development opportunities to coach(es) working with Learn to Train/Train to Compete athletes. Focusing on the goals of the coach, this program will offer one-on-one guidance with National/World level coach mentors who will assist with both technical aspects as well as coach career development plans driven by SCNL strategic goals.
Learning Plan
·       Selected coach(es) will be paired with a mentor coach and will establish a list of goals and objectives for the season.
·       2 -3 in person mentoring sessions.
·       Participate in virtual and in person workshops/presentations organized by Skate Canada, Canada Sport Centre Atlantic, and/or Coaching Association of Canada.
·       Attend out of province training seminar or competition designed to support mentoring objective (preparation of athlete at Pre-Novice/Novice level)
·       Provide regular updates to SCNL on training plans/goals as required.
·       Complete full report of program at end of season.
Eligibility
·       Registered Skate Canada Professional Coach – Provincial Coach Certified or higher
·       Currently working with athletes at the Juvenile and higher levels.
·       Objective of coaching skaters at the National Championship level.
Coach Selection
·       Level of current athletes with the coach’s training group;
·       Learning objectives of the coach and overall commitment of coach to on-going professional development;
