Joe Chapman was inducted into the Hall of Fame in the builder category on April 24 2010. His daughter Wendy Mercer and son Peter Chapman received the award on his behalf.
Mr. Chapman the charter chairperson of the Newfoundland and Labrador Section and President of the Prince of Wales Skating. Mr. Chapman was also instrumental in recruiting the first professional coach in Newfoundland to work with both Prince of Wales and St. John’s FSC. He was appointed mission staff member for the 1967 (the first) and 1971 Jeux Canada Games. An Accountant and Judge he officiated at many events throughout the province. His leadership in the adminstrative structures is best evidenced by the impact he made at the national level where he championed that multi-province section did not reflect the geography of Canada. This effort led to the development of the basic administrative structure of Sections in Canada and the establishment of the Newfoundland Section in 1970. The Chapman Family donated the Chapman Club Award which is presented to the club accumulating the most points at our Provincial Championships.
