Eastern & Western Challenge
Joey Russell
At the Challenge event, held in Ontario, Joey Russell beat 22 other entries to win the gold medal in Senior men, scoring 126.5 in the long after posting 62.15 in the short. Joey will skate in Canadians in January.
In PreNovice women, all four skaters placed in the the top two-thirds of entries, with Ashley Morgan in 25th (scoring 67.02), Robyn-Lynn McGrath 26th (66.87), Ashley Bishop 32nd (64.39), and Emily Benson in 33rd (64.21) out of 53 skaters. Matthew and Alex Young (Novice pairs) placed 5th, with a score of 93.50, beating their own provincial record. Alex and Matthew will move on to skate at Nationals. In Novice women, Julia Mercer finished 25th with a score of 77.27, Alexandra Young 37th (70.09), Stephanie Fagan 43rd (65.46) & Nicole Burt 50th (60.40). Section members Karen Hillyard and Corey and Ryan Sutherland officiated at the event.
