The May 28 edition of the Telegram featured a story on Prince of Wales member Nicole Burt’s joining Canada’s top synchronized skating team, Nexxice
“I was so nervous at the tryouts. I was keeping up with them and I didn’t fall or anything, but inside I was freaking out completely, and I’m still freaking out completely.” Admittedly, Burt is still worked up over as joining the team requires her to leave the family nest and move to Burlington on her own. “I think that’s part of the reason I feel so overwhelmed about it, not only am I representing the country but I’ve got to move out on my own.”

Premier’s Athletic Awards

Congratulations to Robyn Lynn McGrath, Matthew Power, Alexandra Young, Matthew Young, Grace Woodland and Emily Benson who were among 97 athletes who were presented with the Premier’s Athletic Awards. The Premier’s Athletic Awards Program provides grants in the amounts of $500, $1,000, and $1,500 to assist young athletes with the costs of training and competition at the elite level. The amount each recipient receives is dependent on the level of competition in which they are engaged and the training requirements.
