Gold Tests

Congratulations to the following skaters who recently passed Gold tests at the Avalon Region high level test day. Ashley Bishop – Gold freeskate, Hayley Willar-Carter – Gold freeskate, Miranda Walsh – Gold freeskate and Krista Burton – Gold dance. Also, to Olivia Drover-Martin who passed her Gold interpretive in October.

The Skate Canada Officials Coordinating Committee (OCC) has recently approved the appointment of Allison Hussey, Angela Norman, Jennifer Shea and Caroline Sullivan to the National Single Panel Competitive Test Judge List for 2010-2011. Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labrador now has six Single Panel Judges, including Fiona Cunningham and Suzanne Goodland. All are permitted to Single Panel Evaluate up to and including the Junior Singles Competitive Test. Congratulations!

Challenge

Sunday: Alex and Matthew Young moved up two places with a good long program to finish 6th overall with a score of 106.84, a Provincial record. They advance to compete at Nationals. In Senior Men, Joey Russell scored 118.08 in his long, for a total of 180.08, and third place; Joey too will be heading for Victoria in January.
In PreNovice women, Grace Woodland placed 24th (67.81), Nicole Chan 31st (65.24), Emily Benson 36th (63.92) and RobynLynn McGrath 34th (64.55) in an entry of 54.
In Thursday competition, RobynLynn McGrath & Matthew Power finished 6th (out of 15) overall, an excellent result for their first competition. In PreNovice men, Matthew Power placed 17th in the long for a final placing of 23rd, and Dylan Short placed 30th (out of 39).  Matthew’s total of 61.56 is a Provincial record. In Novice women Alexandra Young placed 31st (78.12),  Ashley Morgan 37th (72.48), Julia Mercer 39th (70.11)  and Nicole Burt 46th  (64.80) in a field of 52 skaters.
