Matthew Chislett, National BMO Canskater of the Year!

At the Skate Canada Newfoundland & Labrador Awards banquet, Karen Nevin was named to the Volunteer Award of Excellence. Matthew Chislett of Ice Crystals was named BMO Financial Group CanSkater of the Year Award, and was also chosen to receive the National award! Matthew and Karen will recive their awards at the Skate Canada AGM in Toronto. The Skate Canada President’s CanSkate Challenge award for the greatest increase in CanSkate numbers in the province this year went to Prince of Wales SC with Mount Pearl SC capturing the national award!

Hall of Fame inductees

At the Skate Newfoundland and Labrador Awards banquet, the inaugural inductees into the Hall of Fame were honoured. They were all in the “Builder” category and are:- Barbara Ryan, Agnes Thistle, Joseph Chapman, Elizabeth Swann, E.C (Ted) Withers and Tommy Winter

Barbara Ryan and Agnes Thistle were present to receive their induction awards. The other four inductees are no longer with us so the awards were presented to family on their behalf. Citations follow..

2010 Skate Canada NL AGM and Coaching Conference

The Skate Canada NL AGM is taking place this weekend, April 23-25 at The Capital Hotel in St. John’s.  The SCNL Awards will be presented at the banquet on Saturday evening.
We are pleased to offer a variety of informative workshops for both club members and coaches  (AGM and Workshop Schedule)

Would you like to become a Judge/Evaluator?

If you are at least 16 years of age (or in your 16th year) and have a skating background of two of Junior Bronze freeskate, skills or dance OR one of Senior Bronze freeskate, skills or dance, then you have the requirements to start training to become a Judge/Evaluator. A Primary/Juvenile/CPC Judging Clinic will take place May 1-2 (Sat-Sun) in the Sport NL Conference Room, 31 Peet Street, St. John’s. Please contact Pat Clarke for further information:      The deadline to register is Monday, April 19th. ” It would be ideal if each Club in our Section could have at least one Primary Judge/Evaluator.”

Winter Games

The Newfoundland & Labrador Winter games took place in Grand Falls-Windsor, March 20-23, 2010 (Winter Games official site). The skating event took place in the first half of the games, and is now complete. Full results follow, and photos added April 25
