2014 Atlantic Regional and Provincial Synchronized Skating Championships

Princelles – Cornel Trophy

The 2014 Atlantic Regional Synchronized Skating Championships took place at The Glacier, Mount Pearl on January 31 – February 1, 2014.

The Cornel Trophy was awarded to:
Princelles – Prince of Wales SC (Pre-Novice)
(This trophy goes to the team that in the opinion of the judges was the best team in the competition. Unison and Presentation, in relation to the music, age and ability of the skaters, and the program as a whole should all be considered.)

The Butt Trophy was awarded to:
Icicles – Conception Bay North SC (Pre-Novice)
(This trophy is voted on by the participating teams is awarded the team that best demonstrated the qualities of demonstrated good sportsmanship, spirit of fair play, cooperation and friendship.)

Telegram features Nicole Burt

The May 28 edition of the Telegram featured a story on Prince of Wales member Nicole Burt’s joining Canada’s top synchronized skating team, Nexxice
“I was so nervous at the tryouts. I was keeping up with them and I didn’t fall or anything, but inside I was freaking out completely, and I’m still freaking out completely.” Admittedly, Burt is still worked up over as joining the team requires her to leave the family nest and move to Burlington on her own. “I think that’s part of the reason I feel so overwhelmed about it, not only am I representing the country but I’ve got to move out on my own.”

Synergy compete at Nationals

Synergy from Prince of Wales SC competed at the national synchronized skating championships for the third straight year. They competed against twelve other teams from across Canada in the Intermediate category. They had a good first skate on Thursday and scored 21.26. They scored slightly lower on their second skate (40.51) for an overall score of 61.97, and finished 12th, their best finish of their three trips to Nationals.
The team members are Carly Austin, Valerie Ball, Melanie Bingle, Nicole Burt, Laura Doulton, Susie Doulton, Suzannah Healey, Jenna Hillyard, Sarah Hogan, Lana McCaw, Stephanie Nevin, Jennifer Noel, Samantha Phelan, Clara Pollard, Hayley Porter, Marlee Rae, Tiffany Whynot, and Siobhan Wilkins. Team member Melanie Bingle was featured in an article in the Western Star.

Synergy Wins Gold at Atlantic Qualifier

Synergy

Congratulations to Synergy from Prince of Wales SC. The team won the gold medal in the Intermediate category at the 2012 Alantic Regional Synchronized Skating Championships on Saturday, January 28, 2012. They have earned the right to represent the Atlantic region at the Canadian Synchronized Skating Championships, February 23-25, 2012, in Windsor Ontario. Synergy competed against teams from PEI & Nova Scotia. They scored a total of 68.59 points, with their second skate a slight improvement on their first.

Synchro Nationals

Prince of Wales SC Intermediate synchro team Synergy competed at the 2011 BMO Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships in Brampton, ON. Approximately 53 synchronized skating teams travelled from across Canada to compete in the novice, intermediate, open, junior and senior categories. Synergy had an good first skate scoring 50.61, and followed that with another solid skate, scoring 48.54 – they placed 14th. Their total of 73.84 was less than a point below their own provincial record.

Synergy- Cornel Trophy winners

The 2011 Atlantic Regional Synchronized Skating Championships took place today January 29, 2011 at The Glacier, Mount Pearl, NL. Synergy (Intermediate, Prince of Wales SC) won the Cornel Trophy (awarded to the team, who in the opinion of the judges was the best team in the competition), and the Trinity Placentia Flames (Juvenile) were voted the most spirited team and winner of the Butt trophy (previous winners)

Skate Canada technical update

Please note that important regulation changes were approved on October 2, 2010 by the Skate Canada Board of Directors. these include clarifications for some STARskate tests and Juvenile dance, and changes to the well-balanced program for Novice. For full details please go to Members Only – Rules/Regulation Changes October 2010. There are also some Cumulative Points Calculation (CPC) Judging System Clarifications under Technical and Programs. Further technical updates were added on October 21, relating to synchro and other matters.

Technical update

Skate Canada have announced updates on technical information on the Members Only web site. These include revised versions of the 2010-2011 STARSkate Pre-Event Technical Package, the 2010-2011 Adult Pre-Event Technical Package, the 2010-2011 Pair Pre-Event Technical Package and an alternate version of the Synchro Technical Requirements Package. Also, please see the revised Technical Q & A, and revised test sheets. Skaters, coaches and offcials should ensure they are using the current versions of these documents.

BMO Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships

NL synchro returns to Nationals

Synergy, Prince of Wales Skating Club’s intermediate synchro team competed at the 2010 BMO Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships. They were the first team from Newfoundland and Labrador to skate at nationals since 2003. They had two good skates, scoring 39.19 in their first skate and 45.28  in their second for a total of 64.88.
The team members are Allie Winter, Jennifer Noel, Beth Liverman, Megan Burt, Siobhan Wilkins, Hayley Porter, Jenna Hillyard, Clara Pollard, Nicole Burt, Kayla Kennedy, Samantha Phelan, Lana McCaw, Valerie Ball, Stephanie Nevin, Tiffany Whynot and Carly Austin.

TP Explosion- Cornel Trophy

The Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labrador Synchronized Skating Championships hosted by Mount Pearl Skating Club. Teams was a great success, with 24 teams from all over the province competing. The Cornel Trophy (best team) was awarded to the TP Explosions  (Trinity Placentia FSC), and the Butt Trophy (most spirited) was awarded to Les Etoiles from CPG Saint Pierre. Starlites win gold at Atlantic Regional Synchro!

Starlites- golden at Atlantics

Congratulations to the Juvenile Starlites (Mount Pearl SC) who won their category at the Atlantic Regional Synchronized Skating Championships, beating 5 other teams for the gold. Their score of 22.22 is a provincial record. The Starlites are Jennifer Bent, Shawna Brodhagen, Kayla Burden, Lauren Coombs, Megan Coombs, Kirklyn Edison, Kelsey Hynes, Emily McIlroy, Krysta Quinn, Briet Sevard, Renee Skinner, Makenzie Woodford, and Grace Woodland (Coach Kevin Walsh). Synergy (Prince of Wales SC) had a good skate as single entrants in Intermediate, scoring 67.53. Synergy have qualified for Nationals in Brampton Ontario in March. Synergy are Allie Winter, Jennifer Noel, Beth Liverman, Megan Burt, Siobhan Wilkins, Hayley Porter, Jenna Hillyard, Clara Pollard, Nicole Burt, Kayla Kennedy, Samantha Phelan, Lana McCaw, Valerie Ball, Stephanie Nevin, Tiffany Whynot and Carly Austin (coach Shirley Thistle).
Allison Drover (Technical Specialist), Suzanne Goodland (Judge) and Angela Clarke (Judge) officiated at the event.

Synchro revision

The technical package has been revised to add the Beginner 1 category to synchro eligibilities. This category, designed for entry level synchro teams, has no age restrictions, and was added to match Skate Canada categories.
