Another successful summer seminar with Manon Perron is now complete. At the Skate Canada Newfoundland & Labrador Awards banquet, Karen Nevin was named to the Volunteer Award of Excellence. Matthew Chislett of Ice Crystals was named BMO Financial Group CanSkater of the Year Award, and was also chosen to receive the National award! Matthew and Karen will recive their awards at the Skate Canada AGM [...] The Newfoundland & Labrador Winter games took place in Grand Falls-Windsor, March 20-23, 2010 (Winter Games official site). The skating event took place in the first half of the games, and is now complete. Full results follow, and photos added April 25 The Deer Lake Skating Club Shamrock Challenge Interclub event was held March 5-6, 2010 at the Hodder Memorial Recreation Complex, Deer Lake. The new “Most Spirited Club Award” went to Stephenville Skating Club. Deer Lake has donated this new trophy to the Western Interclub event; its winner is decided by the judges. They base their decision [...] Synergy, Prince of Wales Skating Club’s intermediate synchro team competed at the 2010 BMO Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships. They were the first team from Newfoundland and Labrador to skate at nationals since 2003. They had two good skates, scoring 39.19 in their first skate and 45.28 in their second for a total of 64.88. [...] The 2010 SCNL Junior Provincials were held February 27 & 28, 2010 in Clarenville, hosted by the Flying Blades FSC. Agnes Thistle Shield : Prince of Wales SC (Previous winners) The Thistle Shield is presented to the club with the most points at the Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labrador Junior Provincial Championships in honour of the [...] At the 2010 Lamontagne Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labrador Provincials the Chapman Shield (most points) was awarded to Mount Pearl, and the Alan Davison award (most improved) jointly to Seaport Skaters and Terra Nova Tornadoes. The Balish Cup (most artistic) went to Victoria Hanlon (Silver Jets) and the Withers Award (outstanding performance) to Emily Benson [...] Eastern Regionals took place in Clarenville this weekend (January 23-24), hosted by Flying Blades. Brianna Seaward was named most artistic skater, with the Hart award going to Katie Cranford. Most points went to CBN, with Cutting Edge the most improved club. Photos and Results & Award Winners now on-line. At the BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships in London Ontario. Skate Newfoundland and Labrador was represented by Joey Russell in Senior Men. Joey skated a brilliant short programme on Friday scoring 74.04 to place 3rd, landing a clean triple axel. He placed 5th overall after scoring 128.12 in the long for a provincial record total [...] Central Regionals were held in Botwood, hosted by Seaport Skaters FSC. Cecily Parsons of Terra Nova Tornadoes won the most artistic award, with Sparkling Blades capturing the most points trophy, and Island Blades the most improved club award. Results and now photos are online. Avalon regionals took place January 9 to 10 at the NE Avalon arena, Torbay, hosted by Prince of Wales SC. The most points trophy went to Mount Pearl SC and a brand new trophy presented by Barbara Predham for most improved club went to Bell Island FSC. The mini-Ballisch Cup for most artistic skater was [...] Joey Russell At the Challenge event, held in Ontario, Joey Russell beat 22 other entries to win the gold medal in Senior men, scoring 126.5 in the long after posting 62.15 in the short. Joey will skate in Canadians in January. In PreNovice women, all four skaters placed in the the top two-thirds of entries, [...] The 2009 Rebecca Pack Memorial Friendship Skate took place at The Glacier. In the spring of 2006 the Pack Family and the skating community lost a dear child and skater, Rebecca Pack. To celebrate Rebecca’s love of life and skating, the Pack Family have established in her memory “The Rebecca Pack Memorial Award”. This commemorative [...] A very succesful seminar with Joannie Rochette and Manon Perron took place at the conclusion of the High Performance Centre season at Twin Rinks. A TV crew from Japan filmed Joannie working with our skaters as part of preparations for Vancouver 2010. See below for photos (thanks to Christine Morgan for these) In an amazing final day of skating, Stephanie Nevin won gold in gold triathlon, Olivia Drover-Martin won a silver medal in bronze triathlon and Francince Harris won bronze in silver triathlon at the Homesense National STARSkate Championship in New Brunswick. |
