SKATE FEST – seminar for skaters in STAR 3 and STAR 4

2014 Skate Fest is taking place at the Glacier in Mount Pearl on November 8th.  This seminar is for skaters in STAR3 and STAR4(see application for age criteria).  We are pleased to have guest coach, Stephane Vachon join us from Montreal and look forward to everything he has to share with our young skaters.  Deadline date is Oct 30 Application

Skate Canada Judging Promotions

Congratulations on the following Judging Promotions:

Laura Crosbie:  Section Level Referee
Jennifer Stuckless:  Senior Singles Judge

These promotions have been approved by Skate Canada and have taken these judges 8-10 years to achieve this level of officiating.  It requires clinics, written exams, judging at many, many competitions and several trips out of our province to get exposure to Junior and Senior Level Skating. These promotions show a true dedication to volunteering as an official in the sport of figure skating. Congratulations Laura & Jennifer!

Primary Evaluator & Judging Clinics

Primary Evaluator Clinic
There will be a Primary Evaluator Clinic offered in May 2014 at the Skate NL Office, 1296A Kenmount Road, Paradise.   This clinic is the first step in becoming trained to evaluate at Test Days.  The clinic is 1 day (8:30am-4:30pm) and the date is to be determined based on the availability of participants.
Participants must be at least 16 years old and have passed the complete Jr. Bronze Test in at least 2 disciplines (Dance, Freeskate, Skills).  There is no cost to attend the clinic.

2014 Summer Skating Academy

The 2014 Summer Skating Academy will take place July 7 to August 15 in St. John’s.  We are very pleased to provide our skaters with an excellent coaching staff along with guest coaches to meet the skaters needs.  Deadline date for applications is May 23, 2014. Adult Nationals

Three skaters competed at the Adult National Championships this weekend in Regina with great success. Nicole Burt of Prince of Wales (Gold Women Interpretive Class YA; Competitive Women Free Skate Class YA) won gold in both events, Marrian Kamel of Mount Pearl won gold in Bronze women’s free skate Young Adult and Kristin Brown, Prince of Wales placed 4th in Competitive Women Free Skate Class I).

Skate Atlantica

Skate Canada NL is proud to send a team of 67 skaters to Halifax, NS this weekend to compete at the 2014 Skate Atlantica Championships. This event will be held on March 28-30 at the East Hants Sportsplex.

STAR Provincials

2014 SCNL STAR Provincials was held in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL at the Joe Byrne  Memorial Stadium, March 14-16 2014.
