Technical Specialist Training Definition: A Technical Specialist identifies elements and levels of difficulty of elements in competition. Prerequisite: The prerequisites to obtaining a Section technical specialist appointment are: (1) Skating background that includes: Any two of Junior Bronze Free Skating, Skills, Dance; or Any one of Senior Bronze Free Skating, Skills, Dance or a Juvenile Competitive test; or Any one higher level test. (2) It is recommended but not required that candidates should have experience as either a former skater, coach or judge, referee or technical controller at the Challenge level.
Skate Canada NL is pleased to offer the summer skating academy to skaters of our Province. This year we are excited to have 2 guest choreographers along with World and Olympic coaches from Canada and the United States. The program will run from July 8 – August 16 at Twin Rinks (St. John’s) Application A variety of on and off ice workshops will be offered to our coaches on May 4-5 in St John’s. We encourage all coaches to participate in this valuable learning opportunity. Registration Package The meeting will take place at The Bella Vista in St. John’s on May 3-4, 2013. We encourage members to attend and take part in the various workshops and information sessions that will be offered. Deadline for registration is March 29. Registration Package The 2013 SCNLJunior Provincial Championships were held March 9 & 10, 2013, at the Pepsi Center, Corner Brook , NL. Hosted by the Silver Blades SC. AGNES THISTLE SHIELD Donated by: the Prince of Wales Skating Club in 2003 to honor the many years of volunteerism by club member Agnes Thistle. 2013 Winner – Silver Jets SC Results now online. The 2013 Chatman’s Bakery & World’s Finest Chocolate SCNL Provincial Championships were held March 1-3, 2013, at the Clarenville Events Cente, Clarenville, NL, hosted by the Flying Blades FSC. The Provincial Award Recipients are Prince of Wales intermediate synchronized skating team Synergy, is competing at the 2013 Skate Canada National Synchronized Skating Championships in Calgary this week. The event will host close to 900 skaters and coaches on 48 teams from across the country that will compete for Canadian titles in the senior, junior, open, intermediate, and novice categories. After their first skate on Thursday night Synergy were in twelfth place, scoring 36.72. They improved in their second skate on Friday scoring 37.35, but still finished 12th overall. Twelfth place equals their best placing in four trips to Nationals, but represents an improvement in that they were competing in a larger field (16), and for the first time finished ahead of two teams from traditional synchro powerhouse Quebec.

The Pat Laskey Award (Most Points) Nomination forms for are now available for Skate Canada NL Appointed and Elected Directors for the 2013-2015 term. The 2013 SCNL Synchronized Skating Championships were held February 15th & 16th, at the Jack Byrne Arena in Torbay, NL, hosted by the Prince of Wales SC. Thirty four teams were entered in nine categories. Awards The Cornel Trophy was awarded to: The Butt Trophy was awarded to: Results follow: Provincial Enrichment Seminars – 4 seminars to be held across the Province (Canskaters stages 3-7) PEP Application Junior Development Seminars – 3 seminars to be held for skaters Pre-Preliminary to Pre-Juvenile Junior Development Application Seminars will be conducted by guest coach, Josee Picard (World and Olympic Coach) along with Provincial coaches. The 2013 Central Region Snowflake Skate was held February 9th and 10th, at the Windsor Stadium in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL. Results follow |
