Technical Specialist Training

Technical Specialist Training
Phase I Training will be taking place this Spring/Summer in various Sections across the country.  If you are interested in this training, please complete the attached application or contact Caroline Sullivan (Judge/Evaluator Chair)caroline_sullivan@hotmail.com by May 14.

Definition: A Technical Specialist identifies elements and levels of difficulty of elements in competition.

Prerequisite:  The prerequisites to obtaining a Section technical specialist appointment are:

(1) Skating background that includes:

Any two of Junior Bronze Free Skating, Skills, Dance; or

Any one of Senior Bronze Free Skating, Skills, Dance or a Juvenile Competitive test; or

Any one higher level test.

(2) It is recommended but not required that candidates should have experience as either a former skater, coach or judge, referee or technical controller at the Challenge level.

World’s Finest Chocolate Skate Atlantica


Skate Newfoundland and Labrador sent a strong team to compete at World’s Finest Chocolate Skate Atlantica in Nova Scotia, where our skaters up against the best from Nova Scotia and PEI.

2013 NL Skating Academy

Skate Canada NL is pleased to offer the summer skating academy to skaters of our Province.  This year we are excited to have 2 guest choreographers along with World and Olympic coaches from Canada and the United States.  The program will run from July 8 – August 16 at Twin Rinks (St. John’s)  Application

2013 Skate Canada NL Coach Conference

A variety of on and off ice workshops will be offered to our coaches on May 4-5 in St John’s.  We encourage all coaches to participate in this valuable learning opportunity. Registration Package

2013 Skate Canada NL Annual General Meeting

The meeting will take place at The Bella Vista in St. John’s on May 3-4, 2013.  We encourage members to attend and take part in the various workshops and information sessions that will be offered.  Deadline for registration is March 29. Registration Package

The 2013 SCNLJunior Provincial Championships were held March 9 & 10, 2013, at the Pepsi Center, Corner Brook , NL.  Hosted by the Silver Blades SC.

The 2013 Chatman’s Bakery & World’s Finest Chocolate SCNL Provincial Championships were held March 1-3, 2013, at the Clarenville Events Cente, Clarenville, NL, hosted by the  Flying Blades FSC.

2013 Skate Canada National Synchronized Skating Championships

Prince of Wales intermediate synchronized skating team Synergy, is competing at the 2013 Skate Canada National Synchronized Skating Championships in Calgary this week. The event will host close to 900 skaters and coaches on 48 teams from across the country that will compete for Canadian titles in the senior, junior, open, intermediate, and novice categories.

After their first skate on Thursday night Synergy were in twelfth place, scoring 36.72. They improved in their second skate on Friday scoring 37.35, but still finished 12th overall. Twelfth place equals their best placing in four trips to Nationals, but represents an improvement in that they were competing in a larger field (16), and  for the first time finished ahead of two teams from traditional synchro powerhouse Quebec.

2013 SCNL Synchronized Skating Championships

Princettes- Cornel Trophy

The 2013 SCNL Synchronized Skating Championships were held February 15th & 16th, at the Jack Byrne Arena in Torbay, NL, hosted by the Prince of Wales SC.  Thirty four teams were entered in nine categories.

Awards

The Cornel Trophy was awarded to:
Princettes – Prince of Wales SC
(This trophy goes to the team that in the opinion of the judges was the best team in the competition. Unison and Presentation, in relation to the music, age and ability of the skaters, and the program as a whole should all be considered.)

The Butt Trophy was awarded to:
Synergy – Prince of Wales SC
(This trophy is voted on by the participating teams is awarded the team that best demonstrated the qualities of demonstrated good sportsmanship, spirit of fair play, cooperation and friendship.)
