Skate Canada 2016 Annual Convention and General Meeting and National Coaches’ Conference to be held in St. John’s

OTTAWA, ON: Skate Canada announced today that St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, will be the host city for its 2016 Annual Convention and General Meeting (ACGM), in conjunction with the 2016 National Coaches’ Conference (NCC). The events will run from May 25-28, 2016, and the Saturday program will include the association’s 103rd AGM.  For More Info

SCNL High Performance Bursaries

These bursaries provide skaters competing at the Juvenile or higher level with travel support to attend a pre-approved out-of-province competition. More Information/Application


The Skate Canada Achievement Awards were presented at the Skate Canada NL Awards Banquet, following the AGM. Award winners included:-
Volunteer Award of Excellence – Susan Thistle (Prince of Wales)
Section Volunteer Award – Perry Dalton (Mount Pearl Paradise)
Officials Award – Stephanie Nevin (Silver Blades)
Volunteer Coach Award – Brittany Baril (Silver Wings)

Program Assistant Award – Katie Dawson (CBN SC)
CanSkater of the Year – Zeyard Safard-Eldean (Flying Blades SC)
STARSkate Athlete of the year – Lauren Coombs (Mount Pearl Paradise)
Competitive Athlete of the Year – Jenna Efford (Mount Pearl Paradise)
Flying Blades, Silver Blades and Prince of Wales were presented with awards to celebrate their 50th anniversaries. Wendy Mercer and Jean Burden were presented with 50 year volunteer pins, and Eleanor Scott, Gail Hopkins and Dale Russell-Fitzpatrick received 25 year pins.

Happy National Officials Day to all our Skate Canada Newfoundland & Labrador Volunteer Officials!

As judges, referees, data specialists, evaluators, technical specialists and controllers, our officials support the participation of all skaters through test days, competitions, monitoring sessions, workshops and much more!

Why does someone become an official? How do I start the training process? These are some of the questions that may come to the mind if you have ever thought about why someone would become a volunteer official. We have shared the thoughts of some of our own officials in the hopes that you might better understand what it means to be an official and perhaps consider getting involved yourself. Read more
